The Valley of Cerro Punta is located in the crater of an extinct volcano at an altitude of 2,000 meters (6,500 feet), with temperatures that vary between 10° and 20° C (50°-70°F). The valley has magnificent soil conditions, given that the floor was formed by sedimentation from a lake that existed when the volcano became inactive. It is there, at that altitude, at that temperature and with that type of soil, where the Haras Cerro Punta stock is bred.
Because of the harmonious combination of altitude, temperature and fresh climate, the racehorses develop a greater pulmonary capacity from birth that will give them a comparative advantage, principally when running classic distances. It is also important to mention the benefits derived from an intense system of international assessment in reference to the latest advancements in breeding, training and feeding of the Haras Cerro Punta stock.
Haras Cerro Punta was established January 11, 1977, and to this day is a source of employment for Panamanians, who perform their duties in the areas of administration, veterinary medicine, equine nutrition, reproduction, agronomy, etc.
The number of classic winners that Haras Cerro Punta produces bears witness to the harmonious mix of these disciplines. Our winners include Cortisol, Angelical, Leonardo and Pan de Los Pobres (Internacional del Caribe Classic), and Steffany's, Patricio and By Pass (Internacional Confraternidad del Caribe Classic).
The success of our Haras Cerro Punta stock on national and international tracks is mainly due to the individual nutritional attention given to each individual horse.
